Because the world of Mac is a convoluted and hostile place [:-)], and because I have lots of people asking me how to figure out their Apple ID and/or Apple ID password, I have created a package of notes (attached below) on how to:
A Tool for Educators, Counsellors, and Students.
This tool will also be used by teachers and counsellors to track their progress towards major keystone developments in their "Individual Pathways Plan". Below is a summary of my experience working through the "Career Spectrum" portion of myblueprint.ca.
This video demonstrates the use of Notebook 15, specifically how to:
There is a lot of software that converts pdf files into documents. Most do a poor job or cost money or put limits on number of files you can convert. In this first video I will show how Google Drive and Google Docs can be used to convert a simple pdf file... This process works best with simple pdf files - the more complex, the worse the conversion, however, Google Docs does just as well if not slightly better than any online conversion software I have tried to date! In this second video I show how to use Google Docs to try and "salvage" a complex pdf...
I may have converted to Mac in one fell swoop with iMovie. This is an awesome video editing tool on the iPad. It is so intuitive it is hard to put it in words. And there is loads of support out there, such as... Click here for support from Apple for iMovie. Click here for a manual for the iPad running iOS 8. In just a few hours I churned out a couple of movies. The first, "A Journey", is a movie-slideshow made from images I took when in England last summer. The second, titled, "The Fire" is just me making a fire. I figured if Shaw could have its 'Burning Log' then I could make "The Fire"...
Inspiration is an app available on iPads which allows you to create a mind map. The software is full of all sorts of bells and whistles, yet still manages to be fairly easy to use. I practiced with it during our last Implementation Day session with Mr. Schimmer - a day of Assessment strategies. Here is what I produced during his morning and follow up session as an example of using Inspiration to take notes: Here's a video of someone taking you on a quick tour of Inspiration... The Khan Academy keeps detailed statistics of student records. Details include time spent on tasks, accuracy (ie. correct vs. incorrect), skill level mastery, and more.

Lisa Read and I hosted the October 24th workshop titled, "iPads in the Classroom". It was a big success with a full roster of teachers, some of whom I would consider expert users of tablets, and others (like me) who are beginners. I developed a framework for the start of the lesson (see attached) which went over well. Teachers could share their expertise and learn from one another. Lisa took the reins and led us through many caveats of use of iPads after which I did a brief demo on "Book Creator" - a free app which allows users to create a book on their device and export it as a pdf, as an iBook, or even as a video! See "Care for Cavies" below. A good time was had by all and I believe we all learned something valuable this day. Thanks to all those who participated and especially to Lisa for coordinating!
